Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz im König-Albert-Museum
The building, also designed by Richard Möbius, opened in 1909. It was refurbished in 1995, ensuring that it now meets the highest contemporary standards for art presentation, both structurally and aesthetically. It houses over 80,000 exhibits, including Germany’s second-largest collection of paintings and prints by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, who named himself after his birthplace, the Rottluff district of Chemnitz, and was a member of the ‘Brücke’ artists’ group. In addition, there have been a number of recent temporary exhibitions that have attracted considerable attention beyond the region, such as ‘Picasso et les femmes’, ‘Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter’ and the major exhibition on Edvard Munch.
