Where it all began: The first tour takes place near Chemnitz’s historic heart, around the Schlossteich and Schlossberg. Following the founding of the monastery in 1136, the Benedictine Monastery of St Mary developed from humble beginnings into one of the most important monasteries in Saxony. In 1527, the large late-Gothic hall church was completed. Today, visitors will find numerous places to stop for refreshments at the foot of the Schlossberg.
