Altes Rathaus
The Old Town Hall was built at the end of the 15th century and has undergone several alterations. A particular highlight is the Renaissance portal featuring the half-figures of Judith and Lucretia on the town hall tower, which was originally situated at the side archway. The tower also houses a figurative carillon depicting the history of the town.
The High Tower dates back to the 12th century. Once the fortified residence of the town bailiff, it has been part of the Old Town Hall since the 15th century. In 1986, it was given its Baroque octagonal upper storey with a dome, restoring it to its 1746 appearance.
You can explore the Town Hall and the tower for yourself as part of a guided tour organised by Chemnitz Tourist Information.
